Abstract: The problem of optimization of design and regime parameters of PSA unit's operation with regard to an economic criterion (total costs, profit, etc.) and fulfillment of design and technological constraints on the process (purity of the concentrated gas (hydrogen, oxygen), on PSA unit capacity, energy- and resource-saving, etc.) is formulated and solved. The problem's formulation takes into account: 1) the uncertainty (inaccuracy) of the initial (physical, chemical, technological, economic) data used for design; 2) the completeness and accuracy of the experimental information available during the PSA unit operation phase. The paper discusses the methods and algorithms of solving the problem of optimal design of PSA units under partial uncertainty of initial data (composition of a gas mixture, limiting adsorptive capacity of an adsorbent, kinetic parameters). Also, practical recommendations for the design of industrial PSA units for the separation of synthesis gas into carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and hydrogen and the separation of atmospheric air into nitrogen and oxygen are provided.
