| Abstract: |
The analysis of the health condition of forests attacked by the pine processionary moth (Thaumetopoea pityocampa) was made for a three-year period - 2017-2019 - on the basis of data on the protection of forest areas from diseases, pests and other damage provided by the information system at Forest Executive Agency. During the period the pine processionary moth was established on an area of 42566.49 ha with 43.9% of Pinus nigra stands, 18.0% - P. sylvestris and 38.1% - a mixture of both species. For these 3 years, there is a tendency for the forests attacked to increase. The main part (82.5%) of the forests attacked were middle-aged forests between 30 to 60 years. The dominating part (82.8%) of them had a stocking rate (relative density) above 0.6 and 90.4% were situated on site classes 3 and 4. Over 80% of the tree stands were defoliated less than 25%. Serious damages leading to loss of needles from 25 to 60% was found in between 10 and 18.8% of the area of forests. In 2017, defoliation of over 60% were not observed, but in the next two years values of 1.2% and 0.1% were noticed, respectively. The relative share of the completely defoliated forests was negligible and established for the first two years (0.1%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
