| Abstract (English): |
The virus had never previously been reported on the European continent but was detected recently in late 2022 in Sicily, Sardinia and southern Spain. This article presents the structure and biological properties of the EHD virus. The clinical manifestations of EHDV, which are similar to those of bluetongue virus, are then described. The species likely to be receptive or susceptible to infection are then indicated, as well as the worldwide geographical distribution of this virus. Prophylactic measures are presented. Il virus della malattia emorragica epizootica, un virus del genere Orbivirus che rappresenta una seria minaccia per i bovini europei, ha raggiunto il continente europeo alla fi ne del 2022, con focolai in Sicilia, Sardegna e sud della Spagna, dove non aveva mai circolato prima. Questo articolo descrive la struttura e le proprietà biologiche di questo virus, nonché le manifestazioni cliniche della malattia, simili a quelle della febbre catarrale degli ovini. Vengono poi riportate le specie che potrebbero essere recettive o sensibili all’infezione, gli strumenti per la profi lassi e la distribuzione geografi ca globale di questo virus.
