Abstract: The survey research titled "Exploring maize farming practices, challenges, and agricultural technology adoption in Sarlahi, Nepal" conducted from Magh 29 to Asad 30, 2079/80, aimed to investigate maize cultivation practices, the challenges faced during cultivation, and how farmers in Sarlahi District manage these issues while considering the adoption of new technologies. The study included 99 maize growers randomly selected from the Maize Zone in Sarlahi, with 64 from Barathwa and 35 from Bagmati municipality. Data was collected through household surveys, key informant interviews, field observations, and focus group discussions. The research revealed that farmers mainly aged between 40-50 years were involved in agriculture. Land preparation was done mechanically, while fertilizer application, weeding, earthing up, and harvesting were manual tasks. Most farmers did not sort or grade maize. About 30% of farmers had received training in maize farming, and irrigation was typically done 3 to 4 times. Weeding occurred 2 to 3 times. Maize prices fluctuated, with one quintal selling for around three thousand, leading to concerns among farmers who bought seeds at a high cost but sold their products at a lower price after production. The major issues faced by farmers included seed quality, storage losses, fertilizer costs, machinery access, as well as insect and disease problems. These challenges need to be addressed for more efficient farming operations and improved outcomes for maize growers in Sarlahi District, Nepal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
