A study compared the outcomes of minimally invasive aortic valve replacement (AVR) through right mini-thoracotomy (RAMT) and full sternotomy (FS) in obese patients with a body mass index (BMI) over 30. The research involved 451 patients at three cardiac centers in Germany, with 336 undergoing RAMT and 115 FS. Results showed that RAMT was as safe and effective as FS, with lower rates of wound healing issues and shorter postoperative ventilation times. The study suggests that obesity should not be a barrier to minimally invasive AVR via RAMT. [Extracted from the article] |
