The article examines the decline of global economic profit pools over the past two decades, despite significant growth in global GDP. It highlights that while North American companies have improved their economic profit, companies in Europe and other regions have lagged, with North America capturing a disproportionate share of global economic profit. Key factors contributing to this trend include underperformance in the energy and materials sectors, challenges faced by smaller companies, and the increasing importance of scale among the largest corporations. The analysis suggests that companies and regulators need to adapt strategies to enhance competitiveness and capitalize on emerging opportunities in a changing economic landscape.
