| Abstract: |
This article focuses on the factors influencing post-operative urinary tract infections (UTIs) following radical prostatectomy. A multi-center prospective cohort study of 467 patients in six French urology departments found that the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score and the duration of post-operative catheterization were significant independent predictors of UTI risk, with a seven-day catheterization threshold identified as optimal for infection prediction. The study concluded that pre-operative urine cultures and antibiotic prophylaxis did not reduce the incidence of post-operative UTIs, questioning the routine use of these measures and emphasizing the need for improved infection prevention strategies.
