| Abstract: |
This article documents an experiment in which a golfer built a full set of clubs from discarded equipment found at a local recycling center, then retrofitted them with premium Golf Pride grips and KBS shafts to compete in a professional PGA of Great Britain & Ireland (GB&I) tournament. Despite the clubs’ vintage and worn condition—including an old TaylorMade Tour Spoon and Ben Sayers forged blades—the upgraded grips and shafts significantly improved playability, allowing the golfer to shoot a respectable four-over-par 74 and finish tied for 19th in a field of 30 professionals. The experience highlighted challenges with outdated club geometry, especially in wedges and irons, and underscored the importance of quality shafts and grips as key functional components of golf clubs.
