| Abstract: |
The authors respond to the research paper "Infected Condoms and Pin-Pricked Oranges: An Ethnographic Study of AIDS Legends in Two Townships in Cape Town" by Jonas Sivelä. They highlight the study's findings about variations in how people talked about AIDS/HIV. They also discuss the legend of infected condoms and pin-prick legends, the lack of the understanding of the nature of HIV and AIDS myths, and the role of the civil society, the private sector and the media in addressing the issue. |
