This guide is intended for use in a course to train students to repair computer equipment and perform related administrative and customer service tasks. Addressed in the individual units are the following topics (with selected subtopics in brackets): performing administrative functions (preparing service bills, maintaining accounts and labor records, training new employees, maintaining inventories, and calculating costs); maintaining customer service (answering and troubleshooting customer questions and demonstrating computer hardware and software); installing computer equipment (determining customer requirements, designing system layouts, transporting equipment, testing installations, and demonstrating systems on site); evaluating diagnostics (conducting various board, card, and line tests and interpreting diagnostic flowcharts); maintaining computer equipment (cleaning, lubricating, adjusting, and setting various components); and servicing computer equipment (interpreting various charts and schematics, installing and repairing various hardware, performing operator duties, and making adjustments). Each unit contains some or all of the following: a guide sheet consisting of a duty statement, performance and enabling objectives, a list of resources, teaching activities, criterion-referenced measures, and performance guides; visual aids; student worksheets and answers; and checklists. Appendixes include a cross-referenced list of tasks and job titles, definitions, a list of necessary tools and equipment, and a 53-item bibliography. (MN) |
