Abstract: Five working papers in linguistics are presented. "Case Marking Strategies in Kope" (John Clifton) shows that there are different strategies followed by Kope for marking core as opposed to peripheral arguments, and discusses typological implications. In "Unmarked and Marked Instances of Topicalization in Hebrew" (Stephen H. Levinsohn), the normal or unmarked function of topicalization in narrative discourse is spelled out. "Zapotec Pronoun Classification" (Stephen A. Marlett) accounts for the distribution of pronouns based on the proper identification of the head of the phrase. "Laminal Sibilants in Chamicuro" (Steve Parker) examines the phonological status of this phoneme group and two possible explanations for the complex distribution patterns of Chamicuro sibilants. In"Possessor Ascension in Dakota Sioux" (Thomas M. Pinson), evidence is presented for Possessor Ascension, a construction in which a nominal that is semantically a possessor is syntactically not a constituent of the noun phrase but rather a constituent of the clause.
