Abstract: To be effective in the workplace, people want to feel valued and safe and that they belong and have a sense of accomplishment. The same is true for educators. Unfortunately, educators' feelings of wellbeing are on the decline and mental health concerns among educators are on the rise. To help states begin to address concerns related to educator wellbeing, the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) formed a multistate community of practice focused on student and staff wellbeing. Participating states quickly learned that they needed research on: (1) what exactly educator wellbeing is; (2) the factors that influence wellbeing; and (3) considerations and strategies that they can use, in partnership with local education agencies (LEAs), to promote educator wellbeing. This report explores the complex influences on educator wellbeing and identifies six actions state leaders can take to promote educator wellbeing efforts in their states. It also includes examples from states working to improve educator wellbeing and draws on lessons learned from CCSSO's multistate community of practice focused on these issues.
