| Abstract: |
This report examines state-level AI in Education evaluation guidance across 32 U.S. states and Puerto Rico. The report defines evaluation as the systematic assessment of impact and categorized state AI guidance across three developmental evaluation stages: Nascent & Exploratory, Emergent & Piloting, and Systematic & Evidentiary. Findings showed a majority of states and localities engaged in exploratory activities, with a smaller number engaging in small-scale pilots. Few states engaged in systematic, large-scale, assessment of the impact of AI-enabled edtech tools on student learning outcomes. The report provides recommendations for progressing through the three developmental evaluation stages outlined above; as well as integrating co-design feedback loop processes into evaluation activities as a useful framework to support states' AI in Education evaluation efforts. |
