Abstract: As in other regions in the world, school-based sexuality education in Ontario, Canada has been a frequent topic of political discussion as provincial curricula has experienced numerous updates and changes, including increased discussions of mental health and consent. This study investigated the current context of mental health and consent education in Ontario's Health and Physical Education curriculum documents for Grades 1-8 and 9-12. Through a content analysis, the study identifies where, when, and how mental health is discussed in Ontario sexuality education curriculum documents. Findings are provided and reported upon with recommendations made for future considerations for school-based sexuality education curricula and pedagogies, including the need for trauma-informed practices within school-based sexuality education.
