| Abstract: |
The authors have noticed a perplexing trend among general education candidates for more than a decade. On the 1st day of a visual arts education course, teachers often hear candidates say, "I'm not an artist" or "Please do not grade me on my artistic ability because I have none." These statements suggest that somewhere in their educational experience, the confidence of these candidates in their visual arts abilities was thwarted. As future K-8 educators, general education candidates learn to teach and integrate all subjects in their classroom, including visual art. Therefore, curricular choices embedded in visual arts education coursework for general education candidates will become an important influence on teacher pedagogy and the way visual art may be perceived and included in their classrooms. |
