| Abstract: |
The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) tools has significantly reshaped the educational landscape, demanding new literacies from both teachers and students. AI tools, in fact, can serve as catalysts for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) education, making training critical to prepare the future workforce for interdisciplinary problem solving with AI automation. However, the growing use of AI in schools and higher education has not been matched by broader access to teacher preparation on AI. One way to address this gap is by integrating AI training into English as Foreign Language (EFL) teacher preparation programs, where preservice teachers can not only build technical skills but also learn to integrate AI into their teaching repertoire in ethical and responsible ways. This study reviews relevant literature on AI in education. Grounded on Paulo Freire's critical pedagogy and culturally-relevant teaching as theoretical frameworks, the study proposes design guidelines and directions for future integration of AI into preservice teacher EFL and STEAM education. |
