| Abstract: |
The following article presents a proposal for the redesign of a traditional course in Differential Equations at Middle Georgia College. The redesign of the course involves a new approach to teaching traditional concepts: one where the understanding of the physical aspects of each problem takes precedence over the actual mechanics of solving the problem, hence, integrating the physics and mathematics of the subject matter. Furthermore, a computational component of the course is developed and implemented. Thus, the use of technology becomes an integral part of the course, with the aim to enhance the student's comprehension of the concepts presented, as well as introduce them to a more "real-world" or "industry" approach to solving problems. Preliminary results indicate a positive reaction by the students to using technology in this course, as well as higher performance over the same course taught in a traditional manner.
