| Description: |
Due to its history and geography, the current Federal State of Hesse was a transit zone during prehistoric times, linking various spheres of cultural influence. Topographic features, such as rivers and low mountain ranges, have shaped migration between neighbouring regions and allowed an exchange of material and non-material goods. The following paper presents morphometric analyses of Late Palaeolithic and Early Mesolithic projectile points made of stone, in order to critically assess similarities and differences regarding material culture between the western part of Central Germany and important key sites located in surrounding areas. It offers interesting new insights into cultural affinities during the final Pleistocene and the beginning of the Holocene, and allows a quantitative assessment of technological developments throughout time, including the standardization of projectile points. |
