With the international interest focused on continuous wave (CW) operation for free-electron laser (FEL) superconducting accelerators, an R&D program is carried at the Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron (DESY) in Germany to study the possible operation of the European Xray FEL cryomodules in CW or long pulse mode. This contribution presents the latest results obtained when driving XFEL series production cryomodules in CW mode, using the XFEL MicroTCA-based LLRF system. Considerations about the cryomodule dynamic heat load, piezo-based resonance control for a cavity loaded quality factor QL = 1.5e7, CW data acquisition and RF control performance at 11 and up to 16 MV/m using vector sum feedback will be presented. |
