Influenza type A is a viral disease that attacks the upper respiratory tract and rarely the lungs. This disease appears rapidly around the world in seasonal epidemic. Due to the expenses that arise from care, medication, hospitalization and management of complications, as well as the loss of the work capacity, this disease generates a high economic impact on the affected population. These and other reasons become this disease classified in a public health problem of great relevance in the municipality of San Juan de Pasto (Colombia). Although there are not report of deaths due to this disease, its incidence and prevalence is quite high. In addition, it causes different acute respiratory diseases (such as pneumonia and bronchitis) of high impact throughout Nariño.In this work, a control problem is formulated considering isolation as a control strategy. The theoretical and numeric results suggest that an adequate implementation of this strategy during epidemic outbreaks could significantly mitigate the transmission of influenza A in San Juan de Pasto. ; La influenza tipo A es una enfermedad viral que ataca preferiblemente el tracto respiratorio alto y raras veces los pulmones. Esta enfermedad aparece rápidamente alrededor del mundo en epidemias estacionales, generando alto impacto económico en las poblaciones afectadas debido a los gastos que origina por concepto de atenciones, medicamentos, hospitalización y manejo de las complicaciones, así como por la pérdida de la capacidad laboral de las personas. Estas y otras razones, hacen que esta enfermedad esté catalogada como un problema de salud pública de gran relevancia en el municipio de San Juan de Pasto (Colombia). Aunque no existen muertes reportadas a causa de esta enfermedad, su incidencia y prevalencia es bastante alta.
