A series of interviews conducted by Priscilla M. Martinez ; 14 ; “Breaking New Ground” is designed to uncover the story of black farm owners from the early twentieth century until the present. Supported by a National Endowment for the Humanities Collaborative Grant, Adrienne Petty of the City University of New York and Mark Schultz of Lewis University recruited and trained a number of graduate students in the American South to conduct interviews with members of a representative sampling of black farm owners and their descendants. The interviews will be archived in the Southern Oral History Collection at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNCCH). Selected to participate in the project, Priscilla Martinez, graduate student in American studies at Baylor University, conducted interviews in central and southeast Texas with the individuals listed below. These interviews will be archived and made accessible through the facilities of Baylor University, as well as at UNCCH. |
