Description: Skiing tourism, historically a driver of regional economic development, now faces unprecedented challenges due to climate change and shifting demand patterns. This thesis explores these challenges and offers three perspectives on the complexities of economic decision-making around Swiss ski areas. Chapter One studies how weather forecasts affect individual skiing decisions, revealing demand shifts in response to forecasting errors. Chapter Two assesses the effects of ski area investment on firm outcomes, highlighting how effectively ski area operators can maintain their competitive position. Chapter Three examines the economic impact of ski area access on municipalities, showing increases in population growth, income, and tax revenues. This thesis reveals insights into the economics around ski areas, provides implications for policymakers, and creates a strong foundation for ongoing research.
