| Description: |
This chapter uses the concept of identity as a narrative product to explore the microconstructive processes that bisexual individuals go through as they move among the various social and cultural environments of their daily lives and life courses. The data on which this chapter is based are taken from the International Bisexual Identities, Communities, Ideologies, and Politics study (IBICIP)—a self-administered survey of individuals who had ever identified themselves as bisexual and/or had ever been attracted to or had sexual contact with at least one person of the same sex over the course of their lives. The chapter focuses on individuals who reported more than one sexual identity and examines the ways in which these different identities allow them to function in the different cultural environments within which they live, work, and socialize. |
