Description: The renewed interest in the preservation of non-renewable resources has made the use of plant-based natural fibres as an environmentally friendly replacement to their synthetic counterparts in construction materials a necessity. This is due to the ability of plant-based natural fibres to enhance the mechanical properties of building components, their relatively low cost, and their derivation from a renewable resource. In this paper, the feasibility of using date palm fibres in cement composites as a replacement for synthetic fibres is reported. This study has reported on the production, types, and comparison between the chemical and mechanical properties of date palm fibres and synthetic fibres.
