Description: ( Am J Obstet Gynecol . 2024;231:546.e1–546.e20. DOI: 10.1016/j.ajog.2024.02.308) The implementation of maternal care levels is a strategy aimed at reducing maternal morbidity and mortality by ensuring that birthing individuals receive the appropriate care based on their medical conditions and the resources available at the hospital. The levels of maternal care framework categorize hospitals based on their ability to manage various medical and obstetric complications. It aims to match patients with appropriate hospitals so each patient can receive the necessary resources and medical personnel during delivery to minimize complications. This study specifically investigates the relationship between delivering in a hospital with inadequate maternal care resources based on the patient’s condition and the likelihood of experiencing severe maternal morbidity (SMM).
