| Description: |
Neuroanaesthesia for paediatric tumour surgery is usually planned, but may have to be carried out in urgent or emergency circumstances. We discuss common presentations, physiological priorities, and standard conduct of anaesthesia, as well as details relating to imaging and neurophysiology monitoring requirements. Important considerations for aftercare are listed. This chapter will also cover the emergency management of paediatric traumatic brain injury (TBI), a presentation an anaesthetist may encounter in a non-specialist centre. Related to these emergency presentations, paediatric massive haemorrhage is also covered. Other challenging specialist areas of paediatric neuroanaesthesia are then addressed, namely, neonatal anaesthesia, spinal deformity surgery, craniofacial surgery, hydrocephalus, and anaesthesia for proton beam therapy. |
