Presented at the 59th Annual Western Social Science Association, (WSSA) Link to Abstracts: https://www.wssaweb.com/documents/archive/2017_Abstracts.pdf Nonprofit organizations have expanded needs for “investment capital” to finance the facilities, technology, and innovations in program delivery related to scaling and capacity building required to remain viable in an increasingly competitive environment. Leaders of nonprofit organizations need to adopt an investment mindset to deliver services and move beyond the charitable giving a or government funded mindset. Traditionally, nonprofit leaders have little understanding of capital resources and how to access them. This paper looks at the financial capital needs of organizations and the ability for NPOS to access financial capital outside of grants and contracts through foundation program related investment, traditional loans given the lack of collateral for most NPOs. The paper presents a case of how one nonprofit organization has managed to access financial capitol and grow from a small organization to a nationwide organization. |
