Description: Thanks to its large field of view and wide spectral coverage, MUSE WFM has delivered us unique galaxy-scale views of gas morphology and kinematics in local galaxies with 100 pc spatial resolution. In particular, it has allowed us to deeply dig into local dusty ultra-luminous infrared galaxies, often associated with gas-rich major mergers and featuring intense nuclear and starburst activity. The local galaxy merger NGC6240, hosting two active galactic nuclei (AGN), is a unique laboratory where to investigate all these processes, making the most of MUSE extraordinary capabilities. By complementing MUSE WFM observations with H- and K-band KMOS mosaics, we obtained an unprecedented panoramic multiwavelength view of gas structures and kinematics in NGC6240. We traced multiple gas phases from ionized to neutral atomic, to warm molecular, all of them revealing the presence of fast AGN-driven outflows, and complemented them with results on X-ray highly ionized and cold molecular gas from literature. Additionally, GTO JWST/NIRSpec and archival MUSE NFM observations provided us with a zoom-in view of the nuclear region of NGC6240 to compare with the galaxy-scale one delivered by MUSE WFM and KMOS. After a decade, not only MUSE itself is still playing a primary role in extragalactic research but also its synergy with other facilities is now fundamental to take the next step towards a complete understanding of galaxy evolution.
