| Description: |
The purpose of this chapter is to describe the theoretical models upon which our understanding of electron diffraction is based. There is a broad experimental division in the electron microscopy of materials between diffraction contrast methods (i.e. bright and dark field imaging etc.) and phase contrast techniques (high resolution ‘lattice’ imaging). In both cases the elastic scattering processes which dominate the image behaviour are well described by the time- independent Schrödinger equation for a fast electron accelerated through a potential E and travelling through a material with an inner potential. |
