International audience ; In France, nosocomial infections (contracted in hospital) represent a significant proportion of the causes of infection, with health, social and financial consequences for healthcare establishments. This is why the aim of this study is to understand how a psychosocial intervention (PSI) can encourage healthcare professionals to comply more closely with hygiene rules. We hypothesised that a ‘participatory training’ type intervention on the foundations of rules (Mayen & Savoyant, 2002), particularly hygiene rules, could influence: (i) predictors of behaviour related to compliance with them, (theory of planned behaviour, Auzoult et al., 2015), as well as (ii) the different dimensions of the relationship with them (Auzoult & Ngueutsa, 2019). Our experimental method is based on the use of questionnaires (pre-IPS and post-IPS) with 166 French nursing students. Our results showed that the intervention did not have a significant effect on attitudes towards hygiene rules, on social pressure and on the intention to comply with them. However, we found an interaction effect concerning the basis of the rules, the perception of safety and perceived control. Participants were more likely to feel that the rules anticipated the ‘unpredictable’ at work (X2 (1) = 4.54; p < 0.04) and that they took physical limitations into account (X2 (1) = 8; p < 0.01). In addition, they were less likely to think that sharing their concern about a patient's safety could have a negative impact on their personal relationships or skills (F (1, 164) = 7.12; p < 0.05). On the other hand, the intervention had an unfavourable impact on perceived control, with students tending to believe that it was more difficult for them to comply with all hygiene rules (F (1, 164) = 6.56; p < 0.01). Finally, a focus group of 9 participants suggests that these results could be biased by (i) the health situation linked to Covid-19 (media debates about the effectiveness of hygiene rules) and (ii) working conditions (too little ... |
