Description: Purpose: To design a convertible mobility stick that provides flexible support for individuals with mobility and balance impairments, combining monopod, tripod, and quadruped configurations into a single, cost-effective device. Relevance: Patients with balance issues often need multiple mobility aids to match their varying stability requirements, leading to increased costs and inconvenience. A single, adaptable mobility stick addresses these challenges. Participants: Thirty individuals aged 55 to 75 with varying degrees of balance impairments participated in the study to evaluate the prototype's functionality and usability. Methods: The study was conducted in two phases. Phase 1 involved a systematic literature review of existing mobility aids. Databases such as PubMed, IEEE Xplore, and the Cochrane Library were searched for relevant studies. Phase 2 encompassed the design and development of the convertible mobility stick. A CAD model was created incorporating foldable bases, adjustable height, and secure locking mechanisms. The prototype was constructed using lightweight aluminum alloy, combining 3D printing for initial parts and metalwork for final assembly. Analysis: User evaluations were collected through structured surveys assessing ease of use, stability, and satisfaction in different configurations. Stability tests were performed on various terrains. Results: Users reported high satisfaction with the device's adaptability and ease of transitioning between configurations. Stability assessments showed significant improvement in balance support. The device demonstrated durability comparable to traditional mobility aids. Conclusion: The convertible mobility stick-‘MorphiAid’ effectively meets the diverse stability needs of individuals with balance impairments, providing a practical and economical solution.
