| Description: | Thursday, March 26, 2026 | 12:00 PM | Eck Visitors Center Thursday, March 26th at 12 p.m. in Eck Visitors Center, join us for a conversation with Anthony Ray Hinton as part of Death Penalty Abolition Week. At age 29, with no history of violent crime at all, Anthony Ray Hinton was falsely convicted of two counts of murder and sentenced to death in the state of Alabama. He spent nearly 30 years on death row for crimes he did not commit, until the United States Supreme Court ordered a new trial in 2014. Hinton was subsequently exonerated and finally released. Following his exoneration, Hinton authored his memoir, The Sun Does Shine, and has spent his life advocating for reform in the criminal justice system. This event will include an introduction by Dean G. Marcus Cole, followed by a presentation by Anthony Ray Hinton and a fireside chat between Hinton and Professor Jennifer Mason McAward. This event is hosted as part of the Exoneration Justice Clinic’s second annual Death Penalty Abolition Week.
