Description: The essential attribute of longitudinality seeks to link and accompany users over time in the territories, allowing for the consolidation of actions, which gain momentum for the construction of a health model, consistent with the guidelines of Primary Health Care and the Unified Health System. There are gaps, challenges and successful practices that could lead to progress in this process. This study aims to characterize and discuss the essential attribute of longitudinality in health care with family health nursing teams in the municipality of Palmeira das Missões. This was a qualitative study using focus groups with four family health nursing teams from the municipality of Palmeira das Missões/RS, defined by lottery. The data was analyzed according to Minayo's thematic analysis. Two categories emerged: characteristics of the attribute longitudinality of care in the daily work of the ESF teams, and challenges and potentialities in achieving longitudinal family health. The results of this study identified positive characteristics that contribute to the efficiency of the attribute in daily life, as well as challenges that are important for rethinking the path and trying to overcome them. The presence of bonds, accountability and changes in care models were seen, but communication processes involving care professionals and management could be strengthened. ; O atributo essencial longitudinalidade busca vincular e acompanhar os usuários ao longo do tempo nos territórios, permitindo a consolidação de ações, que ganham movimento para construção de um modelo de saúde, coerente com as diretrizes da Atenção Primária à Saúde e ao Sistema Único de Saúde.
