| Description: |
In Turkish literature, ldquo;objectsrdquo; are frequently used in texts in the context of the concept of existence. In literary works, the author#39;s use of language and creativity leads to the use of objects in a different way from their daily meanings. In literature, the treatment of object names outside their daily function and dictionary meanings comes to the fore especially in abstract and imagist poetry. In this context, the study of the language of poetry opens a dimension to the fields of semiotics and linguistics. The linguist Ferdinand de Saussure and Roland Barthes, whose structuralist and semiotic studies have been the reference sources for shaping the conceptual networks of this study. In this study, especially Saussure#39;s term ldquo;signrdquo; and Barthes#39; term ldquo;poetic wordrdquo; are utilized to examine how ldquo;objectsrdquo; are used in Turkish poetry of the Republican period. Examples in which objects are used in poems in ways other than their everyday meanings have been identified; these examples have been analyzed with an interdisciplinary method by utilizing linguistics and philosophy. Explaining that the poetry genre is a fertile field for the existentialist perspective and the practice of signification, it is investigated how the poet utilizes the poetic word in reconstructing reality. In this context, it was revealed that objects that frighten, speak, look, come alive, and block the way are the most frequently used forms of transcendence. |
