International audience ; Individuals construct themselves in the course of interaction with their environment. French society is pluricultural, which raises questions about the transmission of norms and values in schools. Moreover, schools have a social function, namely the emancipation and cohesion of actors and their integration into society. Educational policies in the French school system geared toward a homogenization of cultural traits, and conversely perspectives of integration through intercultural dialogue, give rise to heated debates in terms of sharing the same space-time (Garnier, 2014). Consequently, the development of social citizenship competencies in French schools through artistic education may be thought of as a tool promoting social unity. This article sets out some conceptual prerequisites for the aim of “Developing transformative competencies through learning about and through the arts.” The methodology consists of a comparative analysis of various French institutional texts with a view to understanding the relevance of artistic education from an intercultural perspective (Abdallah-Pretceille, 1997). ; Un individuo se construye en interacción con su entorno. La sociedad francesa presenta una pluriculturalidad que cuestiona, en particular, la transmisión de normas y valores en la escuela. Además, esta última está investida de una función social que busca la emancipación y la cohesión de los agentes y su integración en la sociedad. Las políticas educativas en el sistema escolar francés orientadas hacia la homogeneización de los rasgos culturales generan debates intensos sobre el compartir un mismo espacio-tiempo (Garnier, 2014). Por lo tanto, el desarrollo de competencias socio-ciudadanas en la escuela en Francia a través de las enseñanzas artísticas podría considerarse como una herramienta que favorece la unidad social.
