Comment les intervenants sociaux exercent-ils leur pouvoir dans leur rapport avec les parents dans le contexte de la protection de l’enfance ? Cet article porte sur les stratégies utilisées lors de la prise de contact pour favoriser l’empowerment des parents. L’étude qualitative explore le point de vue de 30 professionnels issus de deux centres jeunesse du Québec. Elle rend compte d’une panoplie de stratégies axées sur la nécessité de situer le contexte et les pouvoirs en jeu, de créer un lien et de se connaître mutuellement en tant qu’humain. Enfin, elles visent à contrer les forces structurelles qui structurent négativement la perception des parents et à susciter leur participation. How do the social workers use their power and structure their relationship with the parents in context of child welfare? This article concerns the strategies they use at the first contact with the aim of developing the parent’s empowerment. The qualitative study explores the point of view of 30 professionals from two protection services at Quebec (Canada). The reported strategies are centred on the importance of knowing the context and the existing powers, to create a link based on confidence and to develop a mutual knowledge as human being. Ultimately, strategies aim to counter the structural strengths which negatively influence the parent’s perception of the protection services. ; How do social workers exercise their power in their relationship with parents in the context of child protection?
