| Description: |
Background Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common arrhythmia in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Although direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are equally or more effective than vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) in patients with moderate CKD, evidence claiming the benefits of DOACs over VKAs in patients on hemodialysis (HD) is scarce. Purpose This meta-analysis aimed to assess the outcomes of patients with AF on chronic HD by comparing the clinical outcomes of DOACs versus VKAs. Methods A systematic literature search was conducted across various databases to retrieve studies focusing on efficacy and safety outcomes in patients with AF on chronic hemodialysis comparing DOACs and VKAs. Relative risks (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were pooled using the Mantel-Haenszel random-effects model in Review Manager 5.4. Statistical significance was set at p |
