| Description: |
International audience ; During a wildfire, firebrands are pieces of vegetation that detach from the main trees, ignite and can be carried away by the wind and the convective column for distances ranging from tens of metres to several kilometres. Our research is focused on developing simplified models of the transport of firebrand using atmospherical LES simulations to describe the atmosphere and a Lagrangian fire front tracking to describe the fire progress. These simulations have shown the great importance of considering turbulence and convection to calculate the firebrand trajectories. Knowing the maximum travelled distance is of great importance for wildfire management operations. |
