The Design and Analysis of the Proposed Conversion of Old Magalang Public Market into a Three-StoreySteel Structure building shows the need to improve the current public market to better support the growing needs ofthe people in Magalang, Pampanga. The existing market design was outdated and had structural deficiencies, making it hard to meet current safety standards. While redevelopment projects have been carried out in other areas, there is a clear gap in detailed structural studies focused on converting old public markets into three-storeystructures using steel. This study aimed to address that gap by proposing a safe and practical design. The new designaddresses issues such as the outdated layout and limited space. Steel was selected as the primary constructionmaterial due to its high strength-to-weight ratio and the benefits it offers in terms of easier and more efficientconstruction. The study involved formulas and codes for load calculations, structural modeling, and designvalidation. The National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP) was used as the main reference. Focus wasplaced on the structure's stability, durability, and economic feasibility. Different approaches were used to develop asuitable design, including site inspections, architectural planning, and structural analysis using AutoCAD fordrafting and STAAD.Pro for load and stability calculations. Material strength, local building codes, andenvironmental risks were also considered. Results confirmed the feasibility and efficiency of using steel. Overall, the proposed design improves structural integrity and space utilization, showing potential for transforming oldpublic facilities and serving as a model for future redevelopment projects in similar towns. |
