Description: Aim: To evaluate the early outcomes of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in octogenarians. Methods: It is a retrospective study of 25 patients aged 80 years and above who underwent CABG in our hospital during the period January 2018–December 2022. The early outcomes after CABG have been evaluated. Results: Twenty-five octogenarians underwent CABG with a mean age of 81.64 ± 2.56 years, the total number of females was 4 (16%) and males was 21 (84%). Anterior wall myocardial ischaemia was most commonly present, which was seen in 11 (44%) patients. About 84% of patients underwent off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery. The mean number of grafts was 3 ± 0.6; the mean operative time was 4.58 ± 0.96 h; the post-operative intensive care unit stay was 3.3 ± 1.3 days and post-operative hospital stay was 7.91 ± 1.621 days. The most common complication in the post-operative period was respiratory complications, which were present in 20% of patients. The post-operative mortality was 4%. Conclusion: It was concluded that octogenarians can be justifiable candidates for the CABG procedure. The morbidity and mortality after the procedure of this age group are considered within an acceptable range. Approaches to minimise cardiopulmonary bypass time and the choice of off-pump surgery may be a preventive method to lower the incidence of mortality. Therefore, cardiac bypass surgery may be performed in this age group with a satisfactory survival ratio.
