| Description: |
International audience ; Based on current knowledge and using a common methodology, the EVASTOCO2 project estimates CO2 storage capacities in European France, whether in Depleted Hydrocarbon Reservoirs or Deep Saline Aquifers (onshore and offshore). Two calculation methods are used to estimate the static storage capacities and the associated uncertainty (M1 and M2). For depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs, the storage capacities are onshore, mainly in the Aquitaine Basin and for less than 2% in the Paris Basin. Total capacities are estimated at 668 Mt with M1 and 780 Mt with M2.For deep saline aquifers, the greatest storage potential using M2 is in the Paris Basin & Eastern Basin and to a lesser extent in the Aquitaine Basin. There are significant but more theoretical capacities offshore. M1 estimates are 13 Gt onshore and 38 Gt offshore. M2 estimates are 2.3 Gt onshore (including 55 Mt in structural traps) and 1.7 Gt offshore (including 309 Mt in structural traps). The uncertainty range for M2 between the two quantiles Q90 and Q10 is less than ±20%. This work calculates the first global potential for geological storage of CO2 in European France, while providing a detailed report on the maturity of potential storage sites. This work calculates the first global potential for geological storage of CO2 in European France, while providing a detailed report on the maturity of potential storage sites. |
