This research aims to examine Sheikh Ibn Ashur's attitude towards the phenomenon of secularism in Tunisia during Habib Bourguiba's leadership. Tunisia is a country where 99.5% of its 10.8 million population is Muslim. As stated in the country's official law, Tunisia is part of the Islamic community that pays special attention to Islamic objectives. Given that the majority of Tunisia's population is Muslim, the phenomenon of secularism, which separates religion from the state in Tunisia and was propagated by Habib Bourguiba through his political policies, has caused much opposition from various parties, both from the public and religious scholars. One of the figures who raised objections and criticism against the phenomenon of secularism in Tunisia was Sheikh Ibn Ashur. The method used by the researcher in this study is the descriptive-analytical method. In writing this research, the researcher examined and reviewed sources and books of classical and contemporary heritage, newspapers, magazines, and journals related to secularism in Tunisia during Habib Bourguiba's leadership and Sheikh Ibn Ashur's attitude towards it. The results of the study show that Sheikh Ibn Ashur opposed secularism itself and several manifestations of secularism in Tunisia, such as the abolition of waqf (religious endowments), Bourguiba's call for Tunisian people to break their fast during Ramadan, Bourguiba's attacks on the Quran and the Prophet and the ban on polygamy.
