| Description: |
At the present time microprogramming is used mainly in special purpose computers, computers for solving scientific and technical problems and in large general purpose systems. It is still impossible to give any general recommendations about the applicability of rigid and microprogram methods of control; in every special case it is necessary to make a thorough analysis on the basis of comparison of cost and productivity of all possible variants of computer system construction (including a combination of rigid programming and microprogramming). It is necessary to expect that development of ultra-high-speed elements for electronic digital computers (film circuits, tunnel diodes, and so forth) will in the future stimulate the application of the principles of microprogramming.
