Focusing on the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, it looks at the consequences of the 1752 Murder Act. These criminal bodies had a crucial role in the history of medicine, and the history of crime, and great symbolic resonance in literature and popular culture. Starting with a consideration of the criminal corpse in the medieval and early modern periods, chapters go on to review the histories of criminal justice, of medical history and of gibbeting under the Murder Act, and ends with some discussion of the afterlives of the corpse, in literature, folklore and in contemporary medical ethics. Using sophisticated insights from cultural history, archaeology, literature, philosophy and ethics as well as medical and crime history, this book is a uniquely interdisciplinary take on a fascinating historical phenomenon lok: 46475709 3 exp: 46475709 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.013 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109345836 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 5 exp: 46475709 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.022 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109345844 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 8 exp: 46475709 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.033 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109345852 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 10 exp: 46475709 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.043 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109345860 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 11 exp: 46475709 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.051 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109345879 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 13 exp: 46475709 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.059 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109345887 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 21 exp: 46475709 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.075 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109345909 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 23 exp: 46475709 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.083 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109345917 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 24 exp: 46475709 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.091 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109345925 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 25 exp: 46475709 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.101 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109345933 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 36 exp: 46475709 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.191 201C/01 $012-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01176605496 208@/01 $a12-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 51 exp: 46475709 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.117 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0110934595X 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 59 exp: 46475709 59 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.136 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109345976 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 75 exp: 46475709 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.152 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109345992 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 107 exp: 46475709 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.160 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0110934600X 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 108 exp: 46475709 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.168 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109346018 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 204 exp: 46475709 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.175 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109346026 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH lok: 46475709 205 exp: 46475709 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:59:13.183 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109346034 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/33039 $XH
