Shops were better stocked and salaries increased. This stabilization did not last long, however. After a few years, the apparent prosperity turned into economic problems that the rulers were unable to deal with. The growing frustration among Poles made itself felt more and more. However, for those who were children in the 1970s and 1980s, the Gierek decade was a carefree time. The authors, children from the Gierek era, recall that childhood was not only a game of caps and stalks, Donald gums or the first sip of Pepsi-Cola. From that time, they also remember harvesting potatoes as part of social activities instead of lessons and the May Day parades, which were only attractions for children, and not an expression of support for the communist authorities. In nostalgia for youth, they also recall the World Cup in 1982 and concerts of the then cult bands: Perfect, Lady Pank and Maanam.
