Europe speaks to Europe

The issues of information flow and data exchange are frequently under discussion in Europe in the 1980s, as technological advances necessitate corresponding political and social adjustment. Europe Speaks to Europe is a collection of papers given at an International Conference called to discuss an important aspect of this debate - Information Flows between Eastern and Western Europe . The book addresses the search for co-operation between East and West in this highly sensitive area; it deals with the political, cultural, scientific and legal implications of data exchange through a range of media, including satellite television and on-line databases. Existing exchange programmes and the prospects for future developments are discussed from technical as well as practical viewpoints. By bringing together contributors from both Eastern and Western Europe, the book presents a series of fresh and thought-provoking ideas which could open new avenues for East-West communication in the years ahead.
