Collective national fantasies were of decisive importance in the development process of modern Europe, they can be updated again and again to this day. The sexualization of national competitive relationships plays a prominent role here. In her study, Angela Koch investigates the gender-coded stereotypes in the German-Polish relationship that found dissemination in the bourgeois magazine "Die Gartenlaube" after the German Empire was founded. She examines images of feminized men, of eroticized regions and cities stylized as brides, of "motherland" or of raping gentlemen, with whom German-Polish relations were marked and codified as hierarchical in the various historical phases. But the stereotyping process itself and the stereotype as a media information carrier are also subject to gender semantics.
