Johann Wenzel Kalliwoda (1801-1866), a native of Prague, was Hofkapellmeister (court music director) at the Furstenberg court in Donaueschingen from the age of 21. But he is not only important to the music-historical development of Baden, he also regularly performed in other German cities. The first volume of this publication provides a musical biography of this violinist and Hofkapellmeister. Not only the organization of musical activities of artistic merit at a royal court stripped of political power is analyzed here on the basis of numerous sources, the study also looks into selected pieces of Kalliwoda's work of important genres such as symphony, concerto, piano sonata, sacred music and lied. The second volume contains the detailed description of all of the 243 compositions with opus numbers as well as of the approximately 270 works without opus numbers. The single entries consist of all available information on key, movement heading(s), instrumentation, adaptation, first edition, reviews as well as on the location in 30 European libraries and the corresponding shelfmarks.
