The paper investigates this latter allegation centering on a perceived campaign of hate, unequal access to campaign resources and malicious treatment by the mass media. It further analyzes the mass media's performance during the conflictual post electoral period until the final decision of the Federal Electoral Tribunal on September 5th, 2006. While the media's performance during the campaign tells us about their compliance with fair media coverage mechanisms that have been implemented by electoral reforms in the 1990s, the mass media is uncontained by such measures after the election. Thus, their mode of coverage of the postelectoral conflicts allows us to "test" the mass media's transformation to a more unbiased, social responsible "fourth estate". Finally the paper scrutinizes whether the claims of fraud and the protests by the leftist movement resulted in lower levels of institutional trust and democratic support. The analysis of the media performance is based on data provided by the Federal Electoral Institute (IFE). Its Media Monitor encompassed more than 150 TV stations, 240 radio stations and 200 press publications. However, there is no comparable data available for the postelectoral period. Interviews with Mexican media experts, which the author has conducted during the postelectoral period, serve as empirical basis for the second part. Data on the public opinions and attitudes of Mexican citizens are taken from the 2007 Latinobarometro, the 2006 Encuesta Nacional and several polls conducted by Grupo Reforma. ... lok: 20583822 3 101B $002-03-09 $t07:52:50.000 101C $027-10-08 101U $0utf8 144Z/20 $ap09mar 145S/01 $a007 exp: 20583822 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $027-10-08 $t11:25:07.000 201C/01 $027-10-08 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0559992505 208@/01 $a27-10-08 $boAa 209B/01 $apublikationen-ediss-5774 $x05 exp: 20583822 3 2 #EPN 201B/02 $012-12-12 $t00:02:33.000 201U/02 $0utf8 203@/02 $0560070608 204U/02 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/02 $a27-10-08 $bl lok: 20583822 5 exp: 20583822 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-12-12 $t00:02:33.000 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0560070616 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a27-10-08 $bl lok: 20583822 8 exp: 20583822 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-12-12 $t00:02:33.000 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0560070624 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a27-10-08 $bl lok: 20583822 10 exp: 20583822 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-12-12 $t00:02:33.000 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0560070632 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a27-10-08 $bl lok: 20583822 11 exp: 20583822 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-12-12 $t00:02:33.000 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0560070640 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a27-10-08 $bl lok: 20583822 20 exp: 20583822 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-12-12 $t00:02:33.000 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0560070675 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a27-10-08 $bl lok: 20583822 21 exp: 20583822 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-12-12 $t00:02:33.000 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0560070683 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a27-10-08 $bl lok: 20583822 23 exp: 20583822 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-12-12 $t00:02:33.000 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0560070691 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a27-10-08 $bl lok: 20583822 24 exp: 20583822 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-12-12 $t00:02:33.000 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0560070705 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a27-10-08 $bl lok: 20583822 25 exp: 20583822 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-12-12 $t00:02:33.000 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0560070713 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a27-10-08 $bl lok: 20583822 36 exp: 20583822 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t23:41:07.365 201C/01 $003-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01305107365 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a03-06-25 $bl lok: 20583822 49 exp: 20583822 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $024-01-20 $t16:28:05.762 201C/01 $024-01-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01077030797 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a24-01-20 $bl lok: 20583822 54 exp: 20583822 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $024-01-20 $t16:28:05.775 201C/01 $024-01-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01077030800 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a24-01-20 $bl lok: 20583822 108 exp: 20583822 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $024-01-20 $t16:28:05.785 201C/01 $024-01-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01077030819 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a24-01-20 $bl lok: 20583822 204 exp: 20583822 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-12-12 $t00:02:33.000 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0560070756 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a27-10-08 $bl lok: 20583822 205 exp: 20583822 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-12-12 $t00:02:33.000 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0560070764 204U/01 $0urn:nbn:de:hebis:30-57743 $S0 208@/01 $a27-10-08 $bl
