This book explores the relation between visual motifs and cultural representation in a range of key films by James Ivory, Martin Scorsese and Jane Campion, among others. Looking at the mannerist taste for citation, detail and stylisation, the author argues for an aesthetic of fragments and figures central to the period film as an international genre. Three key figures - the house, the tableau and the letter - structure a critical journey through a selection of detailed case studies, in relation to changing notions of visual style, melodrama, and gender. This seeks to place this popular but often undervalued genre in a new light and to rethink its significance in the context of key debates in film studies. lok: 31631860 3 101B $019-03-13 $t09:53:20.000 101C $019-03-13 101U $0utf8 145S/01 $a930 exp: 31631860 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.526 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0661762440 208@/01 $a01-02-13 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 5 exp: 31631860 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.544 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0750965525 208@/01 $a04-03-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 8 exp: 31631860 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.548 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0661762459 208@/01 $a01-02-13 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 10 exp: 31631860 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.551 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0661762467 208@/01 $a01-02-13 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 11 exp: 31631860 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.554 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0750965533 208@/01 $a04-03-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 13 exp: 31631860 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.558 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0750965541 208@/01 $a04-03-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 21 exp: 31631860 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.561 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $075096555X 208@/01 $a04-03-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 23 exp: 31631860 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.565 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0661762483 208@/01 $a01-02-13 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 24 exp: 31631860 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.572 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0750965568 208@/01 $a04-03-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 25 exp: 31631860 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.575 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0661762491 208@/01 $a01-02-13 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 36 exp: 31631860 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.581 201C/01 $017-10-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01278136576 208@/01 $a17-10-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 51 exp: 31631860 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.584 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0750965606 208@/01 $a04-03-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 59 exp: 31631860 59 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.591 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0750965622 208@/01 $a04-03-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 75 exp: 31631860 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.602 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0750965649 208@/01 $a04-03-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 107 exp: 31631860 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.606 201C/01 $028-02-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01084600862 208@/01 $a28-02-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 108 exp: 31631860 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.636 201C/01 $028-02-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01084600870 208@/01 $a28-02-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 204 exp: 31631860 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.640 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0661762505 208@/01 $a01-02-13 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD lok: 31631860 205 exp: 31631860 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-06-25 $t01:14:17.644 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0661762513 208@/01 $a01-02-13 $bla 209B/01 $aebo $x05 209B/01 $aoam $x06 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/34467 $XD
